The Cedar Creek Greenway Restoration

Amy Ritter

The Cedar Creek Greenway Restoration Project is a concept that was developed by Amy once it was brought to her attention that the land bordering her neighborhood greenway was at risk of being smothered by invasive plant species. Since then, Amy has provided educational plant walks along the greenway and hosted multiple volunteer events. She spends her time removing invasive plants, encouraging the native species and spreading awareness of environmental situations along the greenway.

Amy’s love of plants began at an early age. At 16, she launched her education and career in landscaping by working at a local nursery. She later earned a degree in Landscape Design/Build and continued working in the nursery and growing industry through her mid-twenties.

She then took a five-year break from plant-related work “to see how normal people live,” but quickly realized that path wasn’t for her. After moving to Nashville in 2010, Amy returned to the field as a landscape designer, with a focus on Tennessee native plants—a passion she has continued to pursue for more than a decade.

In recent years, she has expanded her work to include environmental conservation, leading to her most recent effort: the Cedar Creek Greenway Restoration Project.
