Our July meeting will feature a presentation by our Vice President, Donnie Bryan:
Year-Round Gardening with Native Plants to Support Pollinators and Wildlife
Donnie will feature his own terraced hillside shady backyard that utilizes both woody and perennial plants and has included a water feature that includes the rare Bigleaf Grass-of-Parnassus.
Bio: Donnie Bryan was a high school arts teacher in Alabama for 27 years. He moved to Nashville 16 years ago this summer and chaired the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Ensworth High School for ten years. Upon retiring five years ago, he went wholeheartedly into gardening with native plants. He built a large, terraced hillside garden with water features, bird and animal habitats, and pollinator favorites. He has a rain garden, a small pocket prairie, and a woodland garden. He is a member of Wild Ones – Middle Tennessee and Tennessee Native Plant Society. He does native plant rescues, and grows hundreds of plants for our spring and fall native plant sales. He put together a growing room to assist with growing from seed. His garden was featured on the local PBS show, The Volunteer Gardener, last fall.
